64 Emulators coming to Android-powered OUYA!

According to Ed Krassenstein, the Ouya forum administrator, Ouya, the open-source game console running Android, will launch with NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64 emulators available (hat tip to TechCrunch). NES emulation will be provided by EMUya, SNES emulation will be via SuperGNES, and N64 emulation will be via Mupen64Plus.

What are Emulators? They are software that can be used to play games on hardware they weren't intended for.

As there have been emulators available for Android for a long time, the mere fact that the Ouya can run game console emulators isn't that surprising. The good news here is that the Ouya team will allow developers to distribute their console emulator apps via the official Ouya store - as long as the developers of the console emulators don't offer any copyrighted video games.

However, Ouya told Kotaku that they will only accept emulation software, not ROMs, through the Ouya store. To submit games, developers need to show proof of intellectual property rights.

The pricing on the emulators has not yet been released, but we are guessing they will range from FREE to less than $10 (keeping in mind that all OUYA games/apps must have some free features).
